Longitudinal Study Results on Literacy Program Impact

This report presents the longitudinal study results conducted by the literacy nonprofit Beyond Basics, which tracked the progress of 3,553 K-12 students who participated in their structured literacy tutoring program from 2008 to 2022. The study reveals that, on average, high school students improved by two reading grade levels, with approximately 85% of participants showing positive advancements in their reading proficiency. The analysis was performed by Dietz Consulting, utilizing the Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests to assess students' reading skills before and after their participation in the program. The report emphasizes the importance of individualized diagnostic assessments and highlights the effectiveness of one-on-one tutoring sessions delivered by trained tutors. The findings suggest that intensive tutoring can lead to significant improvements in literacy within a short timeframe.
