Adjustable Stroke Cylinder for Filling Machines

This technical report outlines a solution developed by Bimba to enhance the flexibility of filling machines. The challenge faced by a customer involved the need to frequently adjust the filling volume, which required modifications to the cylinder and position sensing switches. Bimba's solution was the creation of an adjustable stroke cylinder featuring a sanitary mounting front head, which eliminated the necessity for a separate sanitary fitting adapter. The design also integrated a position sensing switch that consistently indicated the end of stroke, irrespective of the adjusted stroke position, resulting in a 10% increase in productivity. The report details the mechanical connection between the driver and filler cylinders, as well as the use of a Tri-Clover Sanitary connector for ease of cleaning. Additionally, the benefits include the elimination of external hydraulic tanks, cost savings, and a compact design that optimizes floor space.
