This technical report outlines the optimization of quality control (QC) workflows in clinical laboratories, specifically focusing on the implementation of Bio-Rad's InteliQ quality controls at the Provincial Hospital of Bolzano, Italy. The report details the challenges faced in streamlining QC processes while maintaining confidence in patient results. The solution involved replacing traditional internal quality controls with InteliQ controls, which are designed for direct use without extensive preparation, thus minimizing potential errors during handling. The report presents significant improvements in testing efficiency, including a 32.5% reduction in weekly control aliquots and a 20.8% decrease in QC consumption. Furthermore, it highlights a 28.3% reduction in manual activities and a corresponding decrease in the risk of errors. The integration of InteliQ controls with the analyzer's management system facilitated automated recognition and programming, enhancing overall workflow efficiency. The findings indicate that these changes not only improved operational efficiency but also contributed to better training for technical staff and reduced turnover.
