This document is a technical report comparing two malware scanners, BitNinja and Monarx, focusing on their performance in detecting and handling malware threats. The report outlines the testing methodology, which involved running both scanners on three identical machines with specified configurations. The testing process included scanning a mix of 137,680 malicious and benign files, with an emphasis on JavaScript and PHP-based malware. The results indicated that BitNinja outperformed Monarx in overall detection capabilities, particularly in PHP-based threats. While Monarx showed a higher catch rate for JavaScript files, BitNinja's comprehensive approach allowed it to clean and quarantine files during the scanning process. The report also highlights the false positive rates, with Monarx recording a 0.13% rate compared to BitNinja's zero false positives. The findings suggest that while both scanners are effective, BitNinja may offer more extensive protection against a broader range of threats, making it a preferable choice for businesses seeking comprehensive security solutions.
