This report presents an analysis of sector-specific ransomware risk conducted by Bitsight. It expands on previous research to create a heat map that ranks sectors based on their likelihood of experiencing ransomware events. The analysis is based on over 300,000 organizations and focuses on three key risk vectors: Patching Cadence, TLS/SSL configurations, and TLS/SSL certificates. The report outlines how these vectors correlate with an organization’s risk of ransomware, providing a framework for analysts in finance, credit, and insurance to make informed risk decisions. The findings indicate that organizations with lower scores in these risk vectors are at a higher risk of ransomware attacks. The report also includes a relative risk matrix comparing different sectors, highlighting those with the highest and lowest proportions of companies at increased risk. The conclusion summarizes the performance of various sectors and emphasizes the need for improved cybersecurity measures, particularly in highly digital sectors.
