This case study outlines the challenges faced by the University of Toronto Press (UTP) regarding password management and the solution implemented through Bitwarden. UTP, a leading academic publisher in Canada, experienced inefficiencies due to the use of multiple password managers by its staff, leading to difficulties in secure password sharing. The IT department evaluated various options and selected Bitwarden for its ability to create collections for team-specific password sharing, which streamlined their password management process. The case study details how Bitwarden Send, a feature for encrypted sharing, addressed previously unrecognized issues in secure communication of passwords. Automation through the Command Line Interface (CLI) further enhanced operational efficiency, allowing the IT team to save significant time weekly. Overall, the implementation of Bitwarden has improved workflow, productivity, and security at UTP, reinforcing the importance of secure password management in today's digital landscape.
