This case study outlines the cybersecurity challenges faced by a CEO of a retail company who encountered significant privacy breaches due to an IT professional's overreach. The IT professional took control of the CEO's home network and personal devices, leading to concerns about security and potential retaliation against the CEO's family. After a series of troubling incidents, including unauthorized access to personal emails and a prank on the family’s computers, the CEO sought external assistance from BlackCloak. The intervention involved replacing the rogue IT professional with a new outsourced IT provider and implementing a comprehensive privacy protection plan. This plan included securing the home network, enhancing device security, and minimizing the family's online presence. The steps taken included hardening accounts, changing permissions, identifying access points exploited by the intruder, and initiating ongoing identity monitoring. As a result, the CEO and her family regained control over their personal privacy and secured their digital environment.
