This case study details the network architecture redesign project undertaken by Cologne Bonn Airport to enhance its IP address management (IPAM) and improve overall network visibility and efficiency. The airport, one of Germany's largest, faced challenges due to increased demand for network resources driven by a surge in mobile device usage and the introduction of IP-enabled services. The project, guided by Axians and implemented using BlueCat solutions, aimed to create a centralized IP database and streamline network management processes. The redesign involved segmenting the network into four distinct areas to bolster security and simplify management. The implementation of BlueCat Threat Protection provided an additional security layer, enabling the identification of potential threats. The results included improved stability, enhanced security posture, and increased productivity for the network team, allowing for more efficient management of network resources and access rights. The case study illustrates the successful transformation of the airport's network infrastructure to accommodate future growth and operational demands.
