This report details the findings from a series of workshops conducted by the British Medical Association (BMA) between April and July 2023, focusing on the implementation of the BMA Racial Harassment Charter for Medical Schools. The workshops involved 21 medical students and 18 staff members who discussed successes, challenges, and future goals related to the charter. Key themes included the importance of strategic action plans, dedicated Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) leadership, and the establishment of student/staff working groups. Participants highlighted successful initiatives such as reverse mentoring and efforts to decolonise the curriculum, which have contributed to fostering an inclusive environment. However, challenges such as emotional labour, lack of institutional accountability, and negative perceptions of reporting processes were also identified. The report emphasizes the need for continued commitment from all stakeholders to create a supportive educational atmosphere for medical students, ensuring their psychological safety and addressing racial harassment effectively.
