This research article investigates the necessity, accessibility, and acquisition costs of structured and unstructured medical data for South Korean medical device companies. Conducted through a survey of 76 managers from various medical device firms, the study identifies the types of medical data most needed for developing innovative medical software and hardware. The findings indicate a higher demand for unstructured data compared to structured data, although high acquisition costs and limited accessibility pose significant challenges. The article suggests the establishment of a secure medical data trade platform to facilitate the exchange of reliable medical information while adhering to legal regulations. This platform aims to promote the circulation of high-quality medical data at reasonable prices, thereby lowering barriers to entry for medical device development. The study concludes that addressing these challenges has the potential to revolutionize the medical device industry and foster advancements in healthcare technology.
