Social Media in Advancing Equity and Collaboration in Rheumatology

This narrative review examines the role of social media in enhancing education, patient empowerment, networking, mentorship, and research collaboration within the field of rheumatology. It outlines the transformative impact of social media on communication in academia and medicine, providing new avenues for knowledge exchange among clinicians, educators, researchers, and patients. The review highlights both opportunities and challenges associated with social media use, particularly in addressing global inequities, such as gender disparities and access issues in low- and middle-income countries. A strategic framework is proposed to maximize the potential of social media, emphasizing responsible practices and institutional support. The review also discusses the importance of cultural context in implementing effective strategies for engagement, ensuring that educational materials resonate with diverse populations.
