This case study details the use of the EXALT Model D Single-Use Duodenoscope in a challenging endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure for an 87-year-old female patient presenting with obstructive jaundice and abdominal pain. The patient had a significant medical history, including hypertension and dyslipidemia, and laboratory results indicated elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin levels. The procedure involved an endoscopic ultrasound with a fine needle biopsy that confirmed pancreatic cancer. Due to extrinsic compression from the pancreatic mass, initial attempts with a reusable duodenoscope were unsuccessful. The EXALT Model D was then utilized, allowing successful navigation through the duodenum and cannulation of the common bile duct. A WallFlex Biliary RX Uncovered Metal Stent was placed to alleviate the bile flow obstruction. The case illustrates the effectiveness of the EXALT Model D in complex anatomical situations and highlights its role in improving patient outcomes in ERCP procedures.
