Three-Year Outcomes of Spinal Cord Stimulation

This technical report presents the findings from a global, prospective registry evaluating the efficacy and durability of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) therapy across multiple indications over a three-year period. The study involved over 1,500 patients implanted with Boston Scientific SCS systems from 2012 to 2025. The primary endpoint was the proportion of subjects achieving a ≥50% reduction in average targeted pain intensity from baseline. Secondary endpoints included assessments of pain intensity, disability, health-related quality of life, and patient satisfaction. Results indicated that more than 70% of participants reported at least 50% pain relief at the three-year follow-up, with approximately 90% of patients noting improvement in their condition. Additionally, the report documents a low annualized explant rate, indicating the long-term safety of SCS systems. The findings contribute to the understanding of SCS effectiveness in real-world settings, contrasting with traditional medical management approaches for chronic pain.
