Modern Family Index Research on Summer Challenges

This report presents findings from the Modern Family Index, a research study conducted by Bright Horizons in collaboration with The Harris Poll. The study focuses on the challenges faced by working parents during the summer months when children are home from school. It highlights that 87% of working parents experience work interruptions due to their children's presence at home, with 76% indicating that their focus at work is affected by the reliability of their children's summer schedules. The report also notes that 68% of parents feel that summer is a break for everyone but themselves, and 42% report increased emotional and mental strain during this period. Additionally, 76% of parents express a desire for more employer support in managing summer schedules, while 86% want their children to have structured activities. The research methodology includes a survey of 2,083 adults, with a focus on parents of children under 18, conducted in April 2025.
