This case study details FNBO's strategic migration from Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build a resilient and cost-effective infrastructure for modern banking. The bank, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, aimed to eliminate costly PCF licensing fees and modernize its infrastructure by migrating over 420 on-premises microservices. The migration process involved a phased approach, with Brillio acting as a partner to facilitate the transition. During the pilot phase, Brillio utilized a proprietary migration tool to scan and map the microservices, ensuring functionality was preserved throughout the process. A detailed roadmap was developed to guide the migration, which included comprehensive analysis and dependency mapping for complex applications. The migration is projected to save the bank over $5 million in licensing costs over three years, while also improving operational efficiency, reliability, and security. The use of AWS-managed services has enabled significant cost reductions and enhancements in performance and scalability.
