Evaluation of a Clinical Scientist-Led Clinic for HCM

This technical report evaluates a new clinic model led by clinical scientists aimed at optimizing care for patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO). Developed by Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb, the clinic incorporates digital technologies and novel treatment pathways. The evaluation, conducted by the Health Innovation Network South London, assesses staff and patient perspectives, clinic effectiveness, and the integration of a digital platform over an 18-month period. The report details the clinic's operational model, which streamlines care through a one-stop-shop approach, and highlights patient experiences, including improved understanding of their conditions and symptom relief. It also discusses challenges such as geographic barriers, digital exclusion, and the need for enhanced psychological support. Recommendations for future improvements focus on expanding staffing, integrating digital platforms, and increasing access through a hub-and-spoke model.
