Patient Journey and Burden of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

This technical report presents findings from a cross-sectional survey aimed at describing the patient journey to diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and the associated burdens on patients and caregivers. The study involved 236 physicians reporting data on 519 patients across Europe, Japan, and the United States. Key findings indicate that a significant number of patients experienced diagnostic delays, with many receiving alternative diagnoses prior to IPF. The report details patient demographics, comorbidities, and the impact of IPF on quality of life. Notably, 86.3% of patients were symptomatic before diagnosis, and a substantial portion required caregiver support. The findings underscore the need for earlier recognition of IPF to potentially improve patient outcomes. The analysis highlights the physical and emotional burdens faced by patients, including the effects on daily activities and overall quality of life, emphasizing the importance of timely therapeutic interventions.
