This technical report investigates the application of Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence (TXRF) spectrometry for analyzing trace elements in fresh water samples. The study specifically evaluates the suitability of the TXRF spectrometer S2 PICOFOX, utilizing certified water standards NIST 1640 and NIST 1643d as test samples. The report details the sample preparation process, which involves mixing certified standards with a standard solution and applying the mixture onto a quartz glass carrier for analysis. Measurement times for the samples were set at 1000 seconds. The results indicate that the S2 PICOFOX can effectively analyze trace elements, achieving good recovery rates for several elements, although some elements were not detectable. The report also discusses the detection limits and variations in recovery data, emphasizing the need for future improvements in spectral deconvolution and sensitivity for light elements. Overall, the findings support the capability of TXRF spectrometry in environmental monitoring of water quality.
