Summary
This case study details the commissioning of retrofitted Evaporative Cooling Systems in three operational hyper-scale data centers located in Dublin, Ireland. The project involved the installation of N+1 Evaporative Cooling systems, including water tanks and booster pumps, integrated into rooftop Air Handling Units (AHUs) responsible for cooling critical infrastructure. The objective was to ensure minimal disruption to live data center operations while upgrading the Building Automation System (BAS) software. A team comprising CAI as the Commissioning Agent, equipment manufacturers, and contractors was assembled to manage the project. The commissioning process included extensive testing of control sequences, failure scenarios, and performance validation of all AHUs. The project faced challenges such as software update discrepancies and operational issues with the cooling system, which were resolved through coordinated efforts and software changes. The successful commissioning mitigated risks of operational failures, which could have resulted in significant financial losses.
