This case study details the implementation of IIoT technology at Jacobs Vehicle Systems (JVS), a leader in the global trucking industry and part of Cummins. The document outlines the challenges faced by JVS, including the lack of real-time data and predictive analytics, and presents the solution of utilizing ShopVue’s Direct Machine Interface (DMI) for enhanced process control and traceability. The results demonstrate significant improvements, including a defect rate of less than 50 ppm, compliance with IATF 16949 standards, and robust traceability through serialized part genealogy. The case study highlights how JVS leverages IIoT to collect extensive data, enforce production sequences, and anticipate production issues. It also discusses the capabilities of the Manufacturing Execution Software (MES) in capturing inspection data and controlling quality in assembly processes. The implementation has led to increased efficiency and supports JVS's expansion efforts, including the opening of a new European factory.
