This case study outlines the initiative undertaken by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBST) to enhance provider enrollment processes by centralizing provider data management. In 2017, BCBST aimed to reduce its average provider enrollment period from over 90 days to improve provider experience and patient access. The organization faced challenges due to siloed operations and manual processes that complicated data management. To address these issues, BCBST collaborated with CAQH to develop a centralized strategy, securing executive buy-in and establishing dedicated teams for provider data operations. The solution involved integrating multiple systems to create a harmonized data ecosystem, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of provider data. As a result, BCBST successfully reduced enrollment time to an average of 22 business days, leading to increased provider satisfaction and improved access to care for members. The case study also highlights lessons learned regarding organizational structure, process improvement, and the importance of data accuracy.
