Impact of Organizational Structure on Cybersecurity Outcomes

This document is a whitepaper that investigates the relationship between organizational structure and cybersecurity outcomes based on a survey of 2,991 IT and cybersecurity leaders from mid-sized organizations across 14 countries. The analysis aims to determine whether the structure of cybersecurity teams influences their effectiveness in managing cyber risks and incidents. The survey categorizes organizations into three models: separate IT and cybersecurity teams, a dedicated cybersecurity team within the IT organization, and no dedicated cybersecurity team. The findings indicate that organizations with a dedicated cybersecurity team report the best outcomes, while those with separate teams experience poorer results.
