This case study examines the implementation of CareAR® Assist by a major multi-modal transportation company in North America, focusing on its railway system, which is a leading transporter of inter-modal freight. The study outlines the challenges faced by the company, including increasing downtime costs and a shortage of skilled technicians, which have negatively impacted locomotive commissioning and operational profitability. The deployment of CareAR aimed to improve mean time to repair (MTTR) and enhance the capabilities of apprentice technicians. The results demonstrated a 52% improvement in MTTR and a 100% problem resolution rate when using CareAR. Additionally, apprentice technicians showed a 72% improvement in their ability to resolve complex issues with the support of subject matter experts (SMEs). The study highlights the economic impact of locomotive downtime and the necessity for innovative solutions in the transportation sector.
