This case study outlines the energy optimization project undertaken at the Orange data centre in Normandy, France, which was initiated to reduce environmental impact and operational costs. The project involved the installation of a floating High Pressure system utilizing 14 liquid chillers equipped with AquaForce® 30XA 1002 air cooled condensers. Carrier BluEdge provided innovative solutions and expertise to help Orange achieve its energy-saving goals. The project was fully funded within the Energy Saving Certificates (EEC) framework, necessitating meticulous planning and coordination to meet the deadline by the end of 2022. Compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) was also essential to ensure the safety of the installed systems. The floating HP system adapts the condensation temperature of the refrigerant based on outdoor conditions, leading to significant reductions in energy consumption, enhanced performance, and protection of machine components from premature wear. The project exemplifies the integration of advanced technology in data centre operations.
