This case study details the challenges faced by J.C. Steele & Sons, Inc. in updating their molding process from jolt/squeeze to an automatic mold machine. The existing equipment was inadequate for handling harder sand, leading to damage of castings and workflow disruptions. Carrier Vibrating Equipment proposed a two-step solution to enhance efficiency and reduce damage. The first step involved installing a vibrating mold dump conveyor to perform an initial breakdown of sand lumps without damaging the castings. The second step included the addition of Carrier's Delta-Phase® shakeout, which effectively handled the sand and castings, ensuring quality control through adjustable angles and speeds. The implementation of this new molding line resulted in improved operational efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, and minimized production downtime. The case study highlights the successful collaboration between J.C. Steele and Carrier in addressing equipment challenges and enhancing foundry operations.
