Wells Fargo Application Modernization Strategy

This document is a case study detailing Wells Fargo's approach to modernizing a large portfolio of over 4,500 applications. The objective was to effectively plan for cloud migration while managing a complex codebase that included legacy applications not updated for over a decade. The challenge was significant due to the sheer volume of applications and the need for an objective assessment of each application's condition. To address this, Wells Fargo implemented CAST Highlight, a software intelligence tool that automatically analyzed the source code of each application. This tool provided insights into cloud maturity, technical debt, and open source risks, allowing the team to categorize applications into specific migration strategies such as Retain, Retire, Rehost, Repurchase, Replatform, or Refactor. The integration of CAST Highlight with their source code repositories enabled a rapid planning process, completing assessments in weeks rather than months, thereby streamlining the cloud migration roadmap.
