Global Strategies for Childhood Cancer Care and Cure

This commentary presents a technical report on the advancements and challenges in childhood cancer care over the past 50 years. It discusses the disparities in survival rates between children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and those in high-income countries (HICs), highlighting that survival rates in LMICs can be below 30%, compared to 80-90% in HICs. The report emphasizes the need for global efforts to improve access, quality, and integration of childhood cancer care through the application of systems thinking. It introduces frameworks such as Health Systems Plus and CureAll, which aim to create a common language among stakeholders and facilitate the implementation of effective interventions. The report outlines the importance of engaging NGOs and local champions in bridging gaps in care and ensuring that children and families receive comprehensive support. It also notes the role of the World Health Organization in promoting childhood cancer as a priority in global health agendas and the necessity for continued efforts to improve outcomes for children worldwide.
