Managing Grid-Scale Renewable Energy for a DSO

This case study presents the collaboration between an Australian Distribution System Operator (DSO) and CGI to develop a Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Constraint Manager solution. The objective of the solution is to deploy Dynamic Operating Envelopes (DOEs) to ensure safe operations and network stability while maximizing renewable energy exports and revenue. The document outlines the challenges faced by the energy sector, including the increasing uptake of renewable energy sources and the need for new infrastructure. It details how the DER Constraint Manager application integrates various DER services and enhances network reliability through automation. The solution is designed to manage both batteries and generators, with capabilities for dynamic alarming of load and generation constraint violations. Additionally, the case study describes the functionalities of the DOE Manager and Connection Manager applications, which orchestrate curtailment schemes and monitor DER connections against operating envelopes.
