This document is a case study detailing the installation of fiberglass conduit at the TVA Apalachia Powerhouse. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) required a replacement for aging cement conduit that posed health risks. The objectives included finding a long-lasting alternative that would facilitate easier installation on a steep mountainside. Champion Fiberglass conduit was selected for its durability, with a lifespan of 50 to 100 years, and its resistance to over 70 chemicals. The lightweight nature of the fiberglass conduit allowed for smoother and less time-consuming installations compared to traditional heavier options. Additional protective measures were implemented, including a split duct cover to shield the conduit from environmental elements and strategic placement to prevent rainwater intrusion. The TVA Apalachia Powerhouse is strategically located along the Hiwassee River, and this project exemplifies the effective use of advanced materials to meet utility demands while ensuring safety and longevity.
