SharePoint Site Provisioning Automation Tool Development

This document is a case study detailing the development of a SharePoint site provisioning automation tool by Charter Global for a global specialty chemical company. The client, a Fortune 500 company, faced challenges in managing SharePoint site requests due to high demand across its business segments. To address this, Charter Global assembled a team of consultants and developers skilled in Microsoft SharePoint Client Side Object Model (CSOM) and PowerShell. The team defined the scope of the project, focusing on security groups and user permissions, while also creating governance rules for SharePoint sites. The automation tool significantly improved productivity, resulting in a savings of 6,000 labor hours. Additionally, the project allowed the client to manage site creation more effectively, ensuring organized content repositories and improved document tagging and searching capabilities. By developing the tool in-house, the client avoided the costs associated with third-party solutions, enabling a focus on optimizing business operations.
