This case study documents the integration of electronic health record (EHR) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms within a regional health system. The health system aimed to enhance competitiveness and agility by addressing the limitations of its disparate software systems. The implementation process involved significant design decisions, interdependency planning, and operational changes, with the EHR and ERP go-lives scheduled two months apart. The collaboration between the health system and Chartis facilitated the management of dependencies and risks, leading to an on-time implementation that avoided over $2 million in costs. The integrated data-sharing capabilities established a seamless flow of financial data across the enterprise, improving clarity regarding the cost of care. Additionally, the integration enhanced patient outcomes and satisfaction by providing clinically integrated supply chain data. The case study illustrates the successful approach taken to achieve a cohesive clinical and business IT ecosystem.
