Prevalence and Determinants of Smoke-Free Homes in Europe

This technical report presents findings from the TackSHS Survey, which investigated the prevalence and determinants of smoke-free homes across 12 European countries during 2017-2018. The study involved a cross-sectional survey with approximately 11,902 participants aged 15 and older, representing the general population of each country. Results indicate that about 70.2% of respondents reported having smoke-free homes, with prevalence rates varying significantly from 44.4% in Greece to 84.5% in England. The report identifies several factors associated with smoke-free homes, including age, gender, educational level, and the presence of children in the household. It highlights that individuals who are current or former smokers are less likely to have smoke-free homes. The report concludes that while the overall prevalence of smoke-free homes is relatively high, tailored interventions are necessary in countries with lower rates to address the identified determinants and enhance smoke-free home adoption.
