This case study outlines the implementation of FHIR integration to enhance continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and clinical support for a leading medical device company. The client required bi-directional integration between its CRRT devices and hospital electronic health records (EHRs) to improve clinical decision support. The existing devices were unable to read patient vitals and medication data from EHRs, necessitating a solution that would enable interoperability. CitiusTech was selected for its expertise in interoperability and medical devices, leading to the establishment of secure FHIR R4 API connectivity with the EPIC EHR system. The integration service was designed to read and write patient data, including vitals and therapy information, back to the EHR. Additionally, the solution provides a roadmap for scaling across new EHRs and supports advanced analytics without requiring further development from hospitals. This implementation aims to enhance therapy improvements and streamline workflows.
