This report evaluates the outcomes of the Post Office Network Transformation Programme (NTP), which is the largest restructuring initiative in the history of the UK’s post office network. The NTP aims to modernize the network, ensuring accessibility and service quality while maintaining financial viability. By April 2018, over 7,000 branches are expected to have transitioned to new operating models, including Post Office Mains, Locals, and Local Plus branches. The report highlights that nearly 80% of the population will experience changes to their nearest post office. Despite meeting government access criteria, the report raises concerns about the distance consumers must travel to reach services, particularly in rural areas. Recommendations include securing funding for community branches and adjusting access criteria to better reflect consumer experiences. The findings are based on modelling conducted by GIS consultants and aim to inform future policy decisions regarding the post office network.
