Implementation of BlackLine for Financial Reconciliation

This case study examines the implementation of the BlackLine application by Pembina Pipeline Corporation, aimed at enhancing their monthly financial close processes. Engaging Clearsulting for a two-month blueprint, Pembina sought to identify process challenges and software capabilities that aligned with leading practices. Following interviews across multiple business units, the BlackLine solution was selected to address documented business requirements and improve control processes. The implementation focused on automating reconciliation processes by linking BlackLine with SAP S/4 HANA, which improved efficiency. The project achieved an automation rate of 37% at go-live, significantly reduced the number of reconciliations, and addressed completeness issues in the balance sheet. Additionally, Pembina prioritized change management by involving end users during testing and providing training to facilitate user adoption. The implementation not only streamlined their financial processes but also fostered collaboration among teams, contributing to long-term success for the organization.
