This case study details the implementation of a simulation-based training program for crane operators at the Port of Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) following the acquisition of a Liebherr LPS 550 cargo handling crane. With safety as a top priority, PCCA sought an effective training solution that would mitigate the risks associated with on-the-job training. The partnership with Del Mar College allowed PCCA to utilize CM Labs' Liebherr LPS 550 training simulator, which provided realistic training scenarios for operators. The simulator enabled trainees to familiarize themselves with the crane's controls and operations without the risks associated with actual equipment. The training program focused on safety, productivity, and efficiency, ensuring that all operators were well-prepared to handle the new crane. The case study emphasizes the importance of simulation in enhancing operator skills and safety in busy port environments, highlighting the effectiveness of this innovative training approach.
