Challenges and Strategies for IT Decision Makers

This report presents findings from a poll conducted by the Government Business Council (GBC) targeting 100 IT decision makers within state and local governments. The objective of the poll, conducted in May and June 2023, was to identify the biggest difficulties faced by these decision makers, particularly in relation to technology and cybersecurity. The report outlines key challenges such as collaborating between remote and in-office employees, retaining skilled IT professionals, and managing rapidly growing networks. It also examines the effectiveness of COVID-era stimulus packages for IT upgrades and the current status of disaster recovery plans among organizations. Additionally, the report discusses the implementation and planning of smart city solutions, highlighting the need for robust cybersecurity measures and improved IT infrastructure. The findings indicate a growing concern among CISOs regarding threats like malware and ransomware, emphasizing the importance of strategic investments in technology to enhance service delivery and regional stability.
