This case study documents the implementation of a smart city project in Pune, India, focusing on enhancing urban safety through public address systems and emergency call stations. The city of Pune, known for its significant IT presence and educational institutions, faced challenges in ensuring citizen safety due to the absence of instant alert systems for emergencies. The smart city initiative aimed to address these challenges by integrating effective communication solutions that facilitate information dissemination during critical situations, such as the COVID pandemic and monsoon flooding. The project includes components like an Integrated Command and Control Centre, Wi-Fi Hotspots, and Emergency Help Points. The Commend solution allows for clear transmission of safety messages and provides citizens with direct access to police assistance. The results indicate an improvement in public safety management, with a notable number of genuine inquiries and incidents being reported through the system, thereby enhancing the overall safety and responsiveness of the city.
