This document is a technical report that outlines the application of state-based control loop performance monitoring software in an edible oil processing facility. The report describes the challenges faced by the facility in processing different types of edible oils, which exhibited unique characteristics that affected control loop tuning. Initially, operators relied on manual adjustments, but the introduction of model predictive control (MPC) did not yield consistent improvements. The report details how state-based analytics provided visibility into distinct operating states, allowing for precise adjustments and improved consistency. By recognizing conditions such as warm-up and steady production, the facility was able to optimize production for each product type. The implementation of Control Station PlantESP software enabled real-time calculation of optimal PID tuning parameters, enhancing operational efficiency. The report concludes with the successful expansion of this approach across multiple production sites, demonstrating the effectiveness of state-based analytics in improving control strategies.
