This technical report outlines the modernization of the baggage handling system (BHS) visualization at Frankfurt Airport, managed by Fraport AG. The project aimed to transition from a fragmented software solution to a centralized visualization platform using zenon from COPA-DATA. The existing system faced challenges due to outdated technology, leading to high maintenance costs and inefficiencies. The new system integrates over 1.37 million tags and 680 programmable logic controllers, enhancing operational flexibility and reducing reliance on third-party services. The implementation was executed during normal airport operations, requiring meticulous planning to avoid disruptions. The zenon platform has improved operational monitoring, enabling quicker responses to malfunctions and facilitating future scalability for new terminal areas. The report details the benefits of the new system, including lower maintenance costs and improved customization capabilities to meet operational needs, ultimately streamlining the BHS management at one of Europe's busiest airports.
