Energy Management System Implementation at Elemental Strategic Metals

This document is a technical report detailing the implementation of an Energy Management System (EMS) at Elemental Strategic Metals, a company focused on recovering strategic industrial and precious metals. The report outlines the integration of a lithium-ion Mega battery energy storage facility in Zawiercie, Poland, which enhances energy efficiency and supports the use of renewable energy sources. The EMS, developed using COPA-DATA's zenon software platform, manages the facility's electrical infrastructure, including a 12 MWp photovoltaic plant and a 7 MW battery energy storage system. The report describes the challenges faced during system integration and the advanced features of the zenon platform, such as peak shaving and load shifting, which optimize energy management. Additionally, it highlights the economic and environmental benefits of the energy storage system, including significant annual savings and contributions to carbon neutrality goals. Future plans for expanding the energy infrastructure and enhancing reporting capabilities are also discussed.
