This technical report details the implementation of a water supply automation system for the Bahrain Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning. The report outlines the challenges faced due to limited natural freshwater resources and the need for a reliable water supply system in an arid environment. It describes the decision to replace outdated programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system with a modern solution using the zenon software platform. The implementation, carried out by Zayika Technical Services WLL (Z-Tech), was completed in less than three months and significantly improved system performance and reliability. The report highlights the enhanced user interface, faster reporting capabilities, and reduced downtime achieved through the new system. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of the upgraded control and monitoring system in optimizing the operation of over 50 pumping stations across Bahrain's extensive pipeline grid.
