This case study outlines the refrigeration system implemented at Skopps Supermarket, Inc., a family-owned supermarket in Fallsburg, New York. The supermarket, which operates seasonally, opened a new 10,000 square foot store in 2015. The case study details the decision-making process regarding refrigeration options, highlighting the replacement of a multiplex system with individual outdoor condensing units to enhance reliability and energy efficiency. The new system, designed with 17 Copeland outdoor refrigeration units from the X-Line Series, maximizes operational efficiency while maintaining low energy costs. The installation addressed local noise restrictions and theft concerns by mounting the units high on the exterior wall. The results indicate that despite the increased refrigeration capacity, energy use remained lower percentage-wise, and there were no noise complaints from nearby residents. The case study serves as a reference for similar applications in food service environments.
