Enabling Metering as a Service for AI Analytics Platform

This document is a technical report detailing the implementation of a metering service for MapR Technologies' AI and analytics platform on AWS. The objective was to transform MapR's existing software as a service (SaaS) into a usage-based metering model without requiring coding changes. The report outlines the challenges faced, including the need to track application usage across numerous customer deployments and the storage of usage data in a centralized AWS S3 bucket. It describes the solution provided by SaaSMeter, which included the use of AWS Lambda functions for data translation and integration with Salesforce. The report explains how various metering components were set up to define usage costs and create multiple subscription plans with dynamic pricing models. The results indicate that the metering solution enhanced MapR's ability to monitor and analyze customer usage, ultimately allowing for flexible pricing models without impacting existing operations.
