This technical report presents a study on the Corning 5L Erlenmeyer flask, which is designed for the efficient culture of suspension cells in the bioprocess industry. The report outlines the development of this flask, which maintains the same footprint as a traditional 3L flask while optimizing gas exchange to allow for a greater culture volume. The study details the methodology used to compare the performance of the Corning flask against a competitor's 5L flask, including the culture conditions and cell viability assessments. Results indicate that the Corning flask supports higher cell yields without compromising cell viability, maintaining over 98% viability throughout the study period. The findings demonstrate that the Corning 5L Erlenmeyer flask outperforms the competitor flask in terms of cell density and yield at both 2.5L and 3.5L culture volumes, providing a valuable option for researchers in need of effective cell culture solutions.
