This document is a guide detailing the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® Mental Health Renewal Program offered by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI). The program aims to enhance the skills of Certified Instructors in teaching crisis intervention strategies within their organizations, particularly focusing on mental health contexts. It consists of three parts: an online course covering mental health fundamentals and crisis intervention training, a classroom day for practicing safety intervention skills, and a live virtual day emphasizing mental health content. The program objectives include defining mental health disorders, explaining their causes and symptoms, and addressing social stigmas associated with these disorders. Participants will learn to manage their emotional responses, utilize effective communication strategies, and apply the Decision-Making MatrixSM for assessing risk behaviors. The training also covers various intervention strategies and emphasizes a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to crisis situations. Successful completion of the program leads to certification as a CPI instructor.
