This case study details the collaboration between Cawthron Institute and CyberCX, initiated in May 2021, to enhance Cawthron's cyber security posture amidst their organizational re-alignment program known as 'One-Cawthron'. The primary objective was to create and implement a suite of ISO-aligned Information Security Management System (ISMS) policies to provide a robust framework for the re-aligned organization. Cawthron faced challenges including a shortage of internal security expertise and a limited understanding of their current security posture. CyberCX's CISO as-a-Service (CISOaaS) model offered Cawthron access to independent expertise and resources, enabling them to improve email security, implement a vulnerability management system, and develop a digital risk register for better visibility. The partnership has resulted in increased understanding of security maturity and has allowed Cawthron to focus on core business areas while ensuring preparedness for potential cyber security events, such as ransomware attacks.
