This technical report presents CyberCX's analysis of over 100 consumer brands in Australia regarding their adherence to the seven Privacy by Design principles. The report outlines the evolving privacy landscape influenced by significant events such as data breaches and regulatory changes. It discusses the implications of these changes on privacy laws and consumer expectations, emphasizing the need for organizations to integrate privacy into their systems and processes. The research assesses how brands across 11 industry sectors have implemented Privacy by Design in their web interfaces, evaluating over 130 attributes aligned with the principles. The findings indicate that no brand fully meets the Privacy by Design standards, with significant variations in implementation across sectors. The report highlights the Telecommunications & Technology sector as the top performer, while the Health, Fitness & Leisure sector scored the lowest. Overall, it calls for improved practices to enhance consumer trust and ensure effective data governance.
