This case study outlines the Advanced Threat Hunting engagement conducted by CyberProof for a large financial services organization in the BFSI sector. The engagement was initiated due to concerns over missed detections related to a campaign involving backdoored PDF installers. The client faced challenges including incomplete visibility into the campaign, detection gaps within existing EDR solutions, and persistent attacker activity. CyberProof's threat hunters analyzed multiple malicious campaigns over a ten-month period, identifying common tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) used by the attackers. They developed targeted detection queries to address the identified gaps, which included suspicious outbound network connections originating from malicious JavaScript files. The engagement successfully closed critical detection gaps and provided the client with improved real-time protection against similar threats in the future. The collaboration between CyberProof and the client resulted in a clearer understanding of the coordinated campaign, enhancing the overall security posture of the organization.
