This case study outlines the Skill Development Initiatives implemented by Cyient Foundation, focusing on sustainable livelihood programs for unemployed, disadvantaged urban youth aged 18-45 in Ranga Reddy District, Telangana, during FY2023-24. It details the establishment of the Cyient Urban Micro Skill Centre (CUMSC) and Cyient IT/ITES Skill Centres, which aim to enhance employability through vocational training in various skills such as tailoring, bakery, beauty and wellness, retailing, and bedside care. The study highlights the challenges faced in skill development, including insufficient infrastructure, traditional outlooks on vocational education, and skills mismatches between industry needs and training provided. It describes the approaches taken to address these challenges, including community mobilization, digital empowerment, and the establishment of a placement ecosystem. The impact of these initiatives is documented, noting increases in monthly earnings for participants and significant employment rates, demonstrating the effectiveness of the programs in fostering economic development and reducing poverty in the community.
